The importance of using wallpaper primer

What is wallpaper primer?

Wallpaper primer is one of the essential requirements for installing wallpaper, which is applied to the wall surface before starting the installation process. This material plays an important role as a base and protective layer in increasing the adhesion of wallpaper to surfaces and allows the consumer to properly place the wallpaper on the wall. It also increases the durability and prevents the wallpaper from peeling and staining, ensuring a satisfactory and pleasing result.

The use of wallpaper primer to create a smooth and uniform surface is very important. Primer can cover defects and imperfections in the wall surface. One of the main components of primer is resins, which, by forming a barrier layer on the wall surface, largely prevent moisture and wall dampness from penetrating into the pores of the wallpaper and improve the final appearance of the wallpaper.

Using a wallpaper primer is important for creating a desired foundation for installing wallpaper.

Benefits of using wallpaper primer:

  •  Creating a desired infrastructure for installation
  • Covering wall defects and unevenness
  • Increasing the adhesive strength of wallpaper
  • Reducing damage caused by direct contact between wallpaper and installation surface
  • Preventing peeling and detachment of wallpaper over time
  • Increasing the lifespan and durability of installation
  • Preventing penetration of dirt and wall stains
  • Preventing wallpaper from slipping and increasing ease of installation
  • Preventing color change of wallpaper
  • Providing the possibility of installation on different surfaces
  • Moisture insulation

Advantages of Wallpaper Primer over Wood Glue

Some wallpaper installers use wood glue instead of wallpaper primer. Although this method is cheaper, it does not provide satisfactory quality. Wood glue can cause yellow stains on the wallpaper and even on the wall, and makes it difficult to remove the wallpaper from the wall in the future

How to use wallpaper primer

Wallpaper primer is usually available in liquid form and can be easily applied to the wall surface using a roller or a special brush. Before using the primer, remove old paint lines and old wallpaper flakes from the wall surface. Make sure the wall is completely clean, dry, and free from any stains and dirt particles. Otherwise, clean the dirt with a damp cloth (use water and soap for deeper stains) and allow the wall surface to dry completely. Then prepare the wallpaper primer according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually it needs to be mixed with water in a certain ratio) and distribute it evenly on the wall surface using a roller or brush.

The primer needs some time to dry. The drying time may vary between a few hours to a few days (depending on the weather conditions). After that, wallpaper can be installed on it.

How to use Pivax Wallpaper Primer

Pivax Wallpaper Primer, a product of Ayster Company, is available in 4-liter plastic container and can be mixed with a maximum of 8 liters of water. However, this depends on the surface being installed, which the installer should determine the concentration to prepare the primer. For example, for installing wallpaper on slippery surfaces such as glass, the final solution should have a higher concentration. Therefore, adding a maximum of 4 liters of water to 4 liters of primer is sufficient.

To ensure flawless installation of wallpaper, it is important to always use high-quality products to achieve better results and guarantee the quality, beauty, and durability of your work.
