Choosing right wallpaper adhesive is essential due to its direct impact on the quality durability of the wallpaper installation. Selecting an adhesive that is suitable for the type of wallpaper and wall surface ensures that the wallpaper is properly attached and prevents bubbling and peeling. High-quality adhesive increases the lifespan of the wallpaper and helps maintain its longevity. However, it is important to ensure that the chosen adhesive is compatible with the specific needs of the desired project. Consider the type of wall and wallpaper when selecting an adhesive. Some adhesives are suitable for stone walls, while others are better for plaster walls. Additionally, some adhesives are designed for specific types of wallpaper.

Types of wallpaper adhesive:

Powder adhesive: Powder adhesive is one of the most common types of wallpaper adhesive. It is available in powder form and needs to be mixed with water before use. Powder adhesive is suitable for heavy wallpaper or in areas with high humidity. This type of adhesive has moisture resistance properties and does not detach when used in humid environments.

Liquid adhesive: Liquid adhesive is also a common type of wallpaper adhesive. It is suitable for lightweight wallpaper and dry areas. The adhesive is available in liquid form and can be applied directly to the wallpaper. It dries quickly and adheres to the wallpaper surface.

Ready-to-use adhesive: Ready-to-use adhesive is one of the easiest types of wallpaper adhesive to apply. It comes in pre-packaged containers and does not require mixing with water. Ready-to-use adhesive is suitable for lightweight wallpaper and dry areas. It adheres to the wallpaper surface and dries quickly.

Heat-sensitive adhesive: Heat-sensitive adhesive is a newer type of wallpaper adhesive. It is available as a heat-activated adhesive and requires the use of a heat device. The wallpaper adheres to the wall surface through the heat generated. This adhesive is moisture-resistant and does not require the use of additional adhesives.

Preparing wallpaper adhesive

To prepare wallpaper adhesive, refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Some adhesives are ready to use and do not require any processing. While others, like powdered adhesive, need to be prepared and mixed with water. In this case, you should follow the instructions on the packaging to properly combine it. Typically, you need to pour the adhesive into a suitable container, gradually add water to it, and mix it with a spoon or whisk until it reaches a uniform consistency. Make sure there are no lumps or bubbles. After this step, let the adhesive rest for at least 15 to 20 minutes. This process will improve the adhesive properties.

Immersing wallpaper in adhesive

After preparing the adhesive, it’s time to immerse the wallpaper in it. To do this, lay the wallpaper rolls on a clean surface and use a wide brush to apply the adhesive to the back surface of the wallpaper. Make sure the adhesive is evenly spread on the wallpaper. If the wallpaper is very large or heavy, you may need to apply more adhesive. Now the wallpaper is ready to be applied.

Some points on how to properly use Ayster wallpaper adhesive:

  • To prepare Ayster powder wallpaper adhesive, it is necessary to dissolve 100 grams of adhesive in 10 to 12 liters of water and mix well to achieve the desired consistency. If you want a thinner adhesive for installing lightweight wallpaper, you can mix 100 grams of adhesive with 12 liters of water. If you want a thicker adhesive for heavy wallpaper installation, mix 100 grams of adhesive with 10 liters of water.
  • The water should not be too cold or too hot for the adhesive to achieve a uniform consistency.
  • The hardness and mineral content of the water should not be excessive.
  • It is best to prepare the adhesive at a moderate temperature so it is not affected by the ambient temperature.
  • After the adhesive has reached the desired consistency, let it rest for at least 20 minutes in moderate air (40 minutes in cold air) to maximize its bonding properties. It is recommended to prepare the wall surface and wallpaper during this time.
  • The prepared adhesive can be used for 5 to 6 days. Adding a small amount of water every 8 hours will prevent it from drying out.

In summary, proper use of suitable wallpaper adhesive allows the installer to execute the installation project with better quality and longevity. By following the correct and precise steps of this method, you can achieve flawless and beautiful results.
